Re: Chanhassen and Woodbury, MN Siren Tests

I lived in Chanhassen in 1989/90. At the time there was an Allertor right next to the city hall right off of Chan View St. There were a lot less buildings in the city then and the Allertor could be heard for miles, even past Paisley Park. I lived right off of Hwy 5 & Hwy 101, right between that ...

Re: St Paul, MN Siren Locations

The Montgomery Ward building off of 94, between 94 and University Avenue, in St. Paul had a Thunderbolt 1000T on top of it. We pulled off the highway and into the Montgomery Ward parking lot during a tornado warning in 1983 to listen to the warning on the radio. I remember the siren going off. It wa...

Re: Bloomington, MN Thunderbolt 1000T

I love that silver Thunderbolt behind Lunds. That's been there for many years. My mom used to take me out there. She'd go to Loehmann's, a woman's clothing store in that mall, and I'd goof around elsewhere. I was always afraid that siren was going to go off while I was standing outside. I think that...

Edina/St. Louis Park, MN Allertor/Penetrator?- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDIR1YaVkM8 Neither St. Louis Park nor Edina had Penetrators. St. Louis Park had 5 Thunderbolts until the late 80s when they started slowly being replaced with Thunderbeams. They even had a Roundback 2001 installed in the ...

Re: Minneapolis/St. Paul Area Sirens
Do you still have the tapes? I never seen an ACA Hurricane SH active before.
Unfortunately I don't have any of the tapes. At the time I had no way of knowing there would be a siren website like this one day. I wish I had taken more pictures and preserved more recordings. I thought ...

Re: Minneapolis/St. Paul Area Sirens

And Hopkins had 1 Allertor & 2 Thunderbolts. -The Allertor was located behind the Honda dealership off Excelsior Blvd & 8th Ave, right next to the railroad tracks. At the time, there was a Knox Lumber there, not the Honda dealership. -One of the Thunderbolts was located on St. Louis St, righ...

Re: Minneapolis/St. Paul Area Sirens

Mound had at least two Allertors. One was at Devon Ln & Leslie Rd. Another roof-mounted on a building located at Shoreline Dr & Commerce Blvd.
These were glorious times.

Excelsior had two Whelens (I don't know which model. I just remember seeing them many time in the 80s). One was located on Water St, right off of Hwy 7. And the other was located on top of the Tonka Bay City Hall on Manitou Rd.

Re: Minneapolis/St. Paul Area Sirens

CITIES: Yes, St. Paul has had their 2001-130's for just over a year. The Thunderbolts roared for their last time late last spring (2012, monthly test). I haven't heard much about how they're working (reliability), but I would imagine things are going fine. They got a HUGE grant from FEMA, which I t...
