NYC is in DIRE need of a siren system. They may not have a risk of tornados but so many other disasters can hit the city.
Sirens wouldn't be useful because of the buildings surrounding it, meaning that many sirens would have to be installed per mile or even less to be effective

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

2001-SRNBs, 2001-130s, and 3 Modulators. Then what is their excuse? those are like the easiest sirens to maintain! and they are also very reliable. The cost and the effectiveness of the system, as I clearly outlined in my above replies. Pardon me, only saw that after I posted, but how would labor b...

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

You can barely see a chopper... chopper.png Could just be shadows, I really can't tell if its a chopper, and in almost every siren the motor would be on the bottom of the chopper. And the dome would make the chopper ineffective because it has barely any room for air intake and sound. Pneumatic sire...

Re: Post your Mystery Sirens here.

Umm.. Has anyone ever thought about calling that department? Does anyone know their phone number? Hopefully, someone can call them. According to google, their phone number is (570) 654-2503 Not able to call them. And I don't think it would be possible to have the motor on top of the chopper, seems ...

After snooping around that siren for a while, I would not be surprised if it was a small Whelen with a strange cone shoved on top of it.
Wasn't the siren originally bought from Germany according to the fire department?

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

According to a map, this is mounted on a 5 feet pole, but it seems like its mounted on a 2 feet pole

Picture of the low mounted siren:

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

Not smart, and not safe. Cell phones and smartphones are an inherently unreliable method of communication. They run off batteries, which tend to fail after a certain number of cycles and age. And you can't really avoid forgetting to charge your phone if you rarely use it like I do. Also, like other...

Re: VC Summer Nuclear is Decommissioning their sirens

Not everyone has a cellphone! and even if they do, they may not have coverage.

I wonder why they are doing this in the first place.
