I figured out that in 1986, Boston Edison’s warning system was all SiraTones: 115s and 408s. Given in the recording, the sirens fade in and out, there could be a 408 sounding on this recording.
https://i.ibb.co/DWN3pZm/EOWS115-Plymouth.png This SiraTone 115 was installed near the lighthouse in Plymouth, MA. While this image was taken in 1998, the siren was taken down in the 2000s, presumably replaced with a Modulator. This SiraTone was likely installed in 1982 with most of the early system.
It just got digitized and just got made available to me. I put it in the Media section. For those who don't see it, the link is https://vimeo.com/705863094

The following is a 13-minute edit chopped from a 3/4-inch tape-sourced 20-minute news recording I obtained of Pilgrim Nuclear Generating Station's old siren system being tested in voice, growl, and multiple times alert on the afternoon of September 29th, 1986. The exact siren model is unknown, as we...
The following is an image I managed to discover of one of Boston's long gone civil defense sirens. This negative was discovered in the Boston Public Library's collection and was digitized for the Commonwealth Collection. https://bpldcassets.blob.core.windows.net/derivatives/images/commonwealth:8w32r...
A 1986 recording of presumably an EOWS 408 or 612 siren was recently discovered in WGBH’s Boston TV News Library. The Pilgrim system was installed in March 1982 according to newspapers from the Plymouth area of the time, and were EOWS sirens from what I could tell. This recording was made in Septemb...

Fire chief was kind enough to let me snap these pics and even told me some of its backstory. Sire...
This is an EOWS 612 siren (number 110 in the system) equipped with an UltraVoice controller running voice and 3 minutes of alert. It is located across the street from the Kingston Collection in Kingston, Massachusetts and is part of the Pilgrim Nuclear Generating Station's siren system installed in...
