Re: Sterling "Super Quad" Siren

That's a pretty cool Sterling. Never knew about this until now. I wonder how much air intake the inner choppers were effectively able to get. Is the one pictured still operational ? I did calculate for inflation, and in today's dollars it would cost about $9500. Wow, you're not kidding about it bei...

Re: Sterling "Super Quad" Siren

Totally off-topic for the Sterling Super Quad siren, but what the heck is the "Sterling Junior?" That I don't yet know. A former board member named "Franz" worked for Sterling and made several mentions of fractional HP "pole toppers", I'd imagine that's what the Junior...

Sterling "Super Quad" Siren

I saw this thing floating around on the archived "mystery sirens" topic, and I don't think anyone ever figured out what this thing was. However, *I figured out what this thing was, and while I have shared it around on Facebook and Discord, I have yet to post it here, so I'm gonna do that. ...

Re: My Sterling Model M48

One of our friends, Doug, works for a huge motor repair shop in Tampa, FL. The bearings in it are bronze sleeve bearings, and the guys at the motor shop were able to keep them, and the siren had a full rewind done to it. Thanks to our connection it was actually done pretty cheap (as in 100 dollars c...

My Sterling Model M48

Back in September, I picked up a 74-year old Sterling Model M48 from a fire station near Avon Park, FL. It is a 5HP, 220V Single Phase model made in 1948 (Hence "M48"). My Grandfather, his friends and I have been working on restoring it for the past 3 months. It is almost ready to be sound...

Re: What are your favorite siren models

My favorite siren is the Sterling Siren Model M. I've taken a liking to them ever since I gained interest in sirens. I have poured countless hours researching the history and mechanics of the Model M, as well as the history of Sterling Siren Fire Alarm as a company. I also own a Model M of my own, b...

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

Here's an incredibly low sitting Type B in Florida that I bet nobody knows about.
I believe it's also an active fire siren, which is pretty crazy.
