Re: More Heath sirens in CA?

Heath was very successful in California, there are far more than just 2 sirens built by the company. The Heaths you're seeing are mostly the Type K, which doesn't really have a specific design and each Type K looks slightly different from one another. There's an article on the CDS Wiki about Heath ...

More Heath sirens in CA?

I was looking around the California siren map, when I noticed that there was a Heath siren on top of the Kenwood FIre Protection District, and it even does noon blasts! I started looking around more, and there was actually 4 more that I didn't even know about, all active and one inactive (according ...

Re: Is there siren graveyard in GA?

I'm not sure if there is any in Georgia or around it close enough to it. If there is one, I haven't heard of any or it could be small enough to not get talked about. The closest graveyard I can think of is West Shore Services (WSS) in Michigan, but that is a long way away. If you were looking to buy...

Lisco, NE mystery siren

I found a really weird looking siren, that shows up as "mystery thing" on the Nebraska siren map. It does seem to have a chopper, so I'm wondering what this siren is: https://earth.google.com/web/@41.49772204,-102.62096105,1067.23730469a,0d,15y,125.48120503h,99.24635731t,0r/data=IhoKFlZDbk...

Re: Kit Carson Mystery siren

I just checked, and according to the sterling siren map this is apparently a Sterling 2V8! I have no idea how this could be possible though, the 2V8 is vertical while this is horizontal. This would have to be a heavily modified version of one. if it even is a 2V8.

Thunderbolt siren info

I don't have a Thunderbolt (yet), but I was still wondering at how you can properly do maintenance and wire the motors correctly. Here are some of my questions: - Is the chopper motor 120v or 240v? - What is the overall amperage and voltage of a fully working Thunderbolt? - can single phase blower m...

Re: Kit Carson Mystery siren

Im not sure either. There's another one in Pennsylvania. Look by the radio tower. http://www.jmarcoz.com/sirens/parkesburg.jpg I think that's just an antenna attached to the tower. If you look closely, you can see mounts going from the antenna to the tower, and by the lighting you can kind of tell ...

Re: Uniquely Mounted Sirens Thread

Here's some more! A Thunderbolt in Berkley, CA. The mounting for this seems kind of overkill: https://earth.google.com/web/@37.89207205,-122.27254801,116.09967041a,0d,42.09204491y,290.92092304h,106.96184601t,0r/data=IhoKFjEwZGJpeUVCcU9SNW5lOXhTLTUyRWcQAjIkCiIKIAocMU9zcVFZU1dtVDFuMHI3WHJhZUdMbVc2a1ps...

Re: Question about Thunderbolt mounts.

I don't think that a mount like that is possible. The Thunderbolt would have to be mounted to the pole, so the whole siren could get support. It could in theory work, as long as the bracket is strong enough. There is another way that some Thunderbolts are mounted, however. The blower pipe goes throu...
