Re: My Whelen 4004 and 2750

Oakbrook Terrace I believe only has one siren. This 4004 was replaced a few years ago by a T-128. Did he say where the 2750 came from?

Re: IL Siren Test this Tuesday

PN-20 would be good. When I saw Mike the EMA director in January, he said the new siren was not yet approved. He's been wanting to replace it for a couple years. That will be interesting, a yellow 508. So yes, it would be good to record it again, but I don't think you need to rush either. If the wea...

Re: Single phase power to three phase power???

Your looking at $900-$1500 for the step up, and about another $500 for the buck boost transformer. I'm going to say it again, I'm not trying to be mean or condescending. You need to be extremely careful. I have personally seen my share of 3 phase arc flashes. It's not pretty. This is not a beginner ...

Re: Single phase power to three phase power???

I'm not well versed on power over there. I would imagine it is similar. You should talk to an electrician in your area. Even a phase converter will use a lot of power. You won't be able to just plug it in. It might be worthwhile to look for a used 3 phase generator. A small gas powered one should do...

Re: Single phase power to three phase power???

There will not be a horsepower rating on it. Voltage and kilowatts are what you are going to need to go by. When selecting a 3 phase converter, make sure it can handle the initial inrush current. We call it locked rotor amps in the US. Not sure what it would be called there. Maybe locked rotor kw?

Re: What siren should I record in Illinois March 1st?

It might be cool to do the New Mod's at O'Hare Airport. You could easily do this from the O'Hare Oasis on the Tri-State Tollway. You would probably get good ambiance of other sirens too. Such as the P-50 in Elk Grove Village on the other side of the airport and Schiller Park's STL-10. Another intere...

Re: ACA Hurricane Sirens.

It's not entirely true that other sirens use standard motors. Most use limited duty motors. Meaning they can only run for about 15 minutes at a time and have to cool off for awhile. I have worked in a heavily industrial field for about 12 years now. The motors we use are always continuous duty. The ...

Re: 2001's being replaced by....2001's?

That's more a comed fail than an idot fail. That traffic signal looks like it's from the 80s or 90s. You can tell by the way it's mounted to the concrete pier. Comed will just put a pole where they think it should go. They don't care.

Re: Madison County & Redstone Arsenal, AL Siren History

30 years is about the useful life on a warning system. Sure, you may get longer, but 30 years is acceptable. Sounds like those Altecs were up a lot longer than they should have been. They were really the original electronic sirens. I will say, electronic sirens have come a long way. I still prefer m...

Re: The Soldier Field DSA

This was an upgrade done by Boingo Wireless. They provide WIFI to Soldier Field for fans on gameday. They upgraded their system which included replacing the lattice tower with a monopole. According to this document, the DSA was moved, not replaced. http://www.checkpermits.com/contractor/Boingo-Wirel...
