Re: Vintage siren photos thread

Found this old picture of the Hillcrest Fire Dept. in Binghamton, NY. I have no idea what the siren is. Perhaps a Model 5 or something with a custom housing. Now they have a newer station with a Model 2. https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/420622_10150598474409094_1472332679_n.jpg?oh=3dce5...

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

Having a BBQ right under a siren!

It may only be a 3V8-H, but I still wouldn't want to be those guys if it went off, haha.

Re: Super Sirex in Binghamton, NY Area?

EOWS1212man: Great find with that article! I was planning to do some research into the town's history. It does kinda suck that they don't use it any more, but I definitely think it was much too big for the size of the town. I can hear the Model 5 from where I live if the wind is right; I can only im...

Super Sirex in Binghamton, NY Area?

New York is awesome. While there are a lot of Model 2s, 5s, and STH-10s, you occasionally stumble upon something old and unique. Such as this thing. I'm linking to the map rather than taking a screenshot so that you can view the siren from different angles. At first I thought it was a Sterling, but ...

Re: My United States Siren Map

Hmm, quite an interesting spread. There are huge clusters of locations in the northwest, Texas area and above, and the midwest, with a few smaller clusters elsewhere. It seems like there have been several attempts at making a map like this. Hopefully this one will actually go far. Feel free to use l...

Re: Lowest mounted Siren in US

That doesn't look very low to me, but it's definitely rather poorly placed. It's literally ON the playground, haha. I don't know about most kids, but if I were there while young and it went off, I'd probably be traumatized for life. (I hated loud noises as a kid.)

Re: Sentry 40V2T Jewish Shabbos Siren in Midwood, NY

Wow, I was just in Brooklyn two weeks ago. I remember the discussion on this siren; people were saying it was a 40V1T, but it looks like they were wrong. Love the videos. I bet you can hear that thing throughout most of the city, haha.

What I'm wondering is, why is it PN-20 and not P-20? Nice video though!

Re: May 27 - Good haul, VERY cool acquisition

Perhaps it's just a machine shop siren? Someone could've made the chopper/horn assembly and stuck an electric motor on it.

Love the pictures though. Whelen omnis always look so small when they're up on a pole. That thing has to be what? 7-8 feet tall? And that's just a 7-cell model.
