Haven't seen anything yet but Iowa's is typically the first full week in April. The statewide drill is usually at 10 am on Wednesday of SWAW. In years past they've blown the sirens but I can't remember if they have recently.

NW Iowa sirens got a workout tonight

Wow. The storms in northwest and north central Iowa were nuts tonight. At last count over a dozen twisters have touched down. It also looks like the decision to start blowing the sirens when winds hit over 70mph in a severe thunderstorm was a good idea because two tornados touched down south of here...

Sometimes I wonder. Around 1994 or so the city council decided to tear down the WW II era civil defense sirens and replace them with modern ones since parts were hard to come by and expensive. Sounded reasonable right? It did except they weren't going to be reinstalled until 10 *years* late around 2...

Bummer on the siren. I didn't even know the statewide drill was going to be Wednesday. I was mildly confused to why they were blowing the sirens at 10:10 am on a Wednesday instead of the usual first Monday noon test. At least your town is going to replace the old siren. An amusing story in honor of ...

I took pictures of the one at Navajo Elementary School when I was visiting a friend two years ago. He lives about 5 blocks from the school. Unfortunately it and another siren will be taken down soon from what I've heard. Pics can be found on my Flickr page here. I should update the description since...

Great pics! The Navajo siren is about three blocks from where I'm staying with a friend. He said in the three years he's been here it's never went off. I snapped a few pics of it last summer. Didn't know about the other one which is only 4 miles from here. Unfortunately we're both leaving for Califo...

Nice find. It'd be nice if they could give the rest of the siren a new coat of paint as well. I really do like like yellow/black combo too.

I agree. Great recording but that would suck to have that going off every night.
