Finally: Good pics of the Gamewell Codewell (Cosgrave) Siren in Jerome, AZ

It's a 3-rotor, 3-stator, single-tone siren. The siren was invented by Austin Cosgrave, but assigned to Gamewell and sold as the Gamewell Codewell siren. When the motor is powered, the rotor shaft is pushed up by screw threads. The rotors line up with the stators and produce sound. When power to the...

Re: Kockum Sonics Sirens in Arkansas

I’m digging up old posts tonight :) I was in the Batesville and Jonesboro areas in April of 2018 and saw a few of those sirens. I’ve seen the articles about the systems being not used anymore, but this siren was freshly moved to a new fire station here. The fresh auger dirt hole and dirt on the cont...

Re: Rainbow, San Diego County, California SD-10

Only reason I'd question the siren coming from Fresno- of the dozen or so SD-10 sirens I've seen in Fresno, all were the older style with screen over the stator. I never saw any with the solid sheet metal band...not to say there weren't any though.

Re: SD-10 Wiring

Is it single phase or 3 phase? Single phase will have 2 main wires coming out from motor. 3 phase will have 3 main wires coming out, but they are formed from 9 lead wires coming out of the motor and joined together depending on high or low voltage. The tag on the motor should also say. With 3 phase ...

Re: St. Louis, Mo. and St. Louis County, Mo. siren history

I have a map of the original STL-10 locations in the city. I found 4 total when I lived there 2004-2008 (before I had all the locations !), including the one visible from US 40 / I-64. I don't know if the other 3 are still up 10 years later now. One was in 2004 when I walked Lindell Blvd from Wash U...

Re: My New Federal Model 5AT

It was an old Ormond Beach siren. I used to live down in Coral Springs and then Parkland. Up in Loxahatchee now.
