Thunderbolts around Anne Arundel & Howard Counties, MD

On my way home from Pikesville, I went over to the Jessup, MD area to grab some pictures of a system of 6 Thunderbolt 1000(T)'s straddling the Anne Arundel & Howard County line. From doing research, their purpose is/was to warn the area of an escape from any of the 8 area prisons. I found the in...

Federal Signal 3T22 18 Second Alert Mardela Springs, MD - May 4, 2020

Here is a Federal Signal 3T22A next to an inactive Sterling Little Giant, sounding for the monthly test of Wicomico County, Maryland's citizen alert siren system. These two sirens are located at Mardela Springs Fire Department in Mardela Springs, Maryland, and the 3T22 also sounds for fire calls. En...

Federal Signal STH-10 1 Minute Alert - St. Michaels, MD - March 7, 2020

On my first day of Spring Break, I went to St. Michaels in Talbot County, Maryland and recorded this STH-10 for the monthly test of part of the Tri-County Siren System on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The test began slightly late, but this siren sure didn't disappoint, especially with this being my firs...

Re: Thunderbolts in existence

The 1000(T) marked at 41.0846606, -76.3123159 is not there; I drove over to look for it while I was in that area earlier, but all I could see through the trees was a tree stand in that place. One of the new T-121s is about a quarter mile to the west, but didn't see a Thunderbolt anywhere.

Whelen WPS-2904 Hi-Lo + Voice - Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania

Despite the rain, I went to record one of the sirens on my campus for the bi-annual test. Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania tested their campus sirens at 9:20 AM on February 13th, sounding 2 rounds of hi-lo and voice. The university's alert system has 3 Whelen WPS-2904s; this one on Nelson Field...

Is that a Owl on top of the siren?
It’s a decoy; likely placed due to a bird problem. I’ve always thought it was an awesome touch; all 71 T-121s around the plant have one.

Salem Hope Creek Nuclear ASC T-121 Quarterly Test - January 7th, 2020

Went back up to the Salem Hope Creek nuke plant system for the first quarterly test of 2020; this T-121 (#224) is located along Summit Bridge Road outside of Townsend, DE. Sirens sounded on schedule at 10:45 AM, and this one was definitely punchy just as the other T-121 in this system that I recorde...

Federal Electric Model B Monthly Test - Easton, Maryland

To ring in the new decade before heading back to school later this month, I returned to Easton in Talbot County, MD for their Model B on January 4th. Overall, it wasn't too loud, but it was still punchy and gets the job done for this small neighborhood, and it's nice to see an old siren like this st...

San Francisco ATI system being silenced; possibly replaced

I just came across some news articles warning that San Francisco’s system of ATI’s, known for using recordings of the old system of STL-10s, will be tested for the last time and become inactive for “up to 2 years” beginning next week. The information seems to indicate they may be replaced during thi...
