Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

The shroud was very rusted and in bad shape when it was removed in the 1970s. It's been long gone. I will more than likely make a Decot "hat" style shroud at some point. The hat style is the basket without the louvered sides.

Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

Got the motor mount plate fully installed. Had to level the legs off first by grinding the shims to a slight taper to achieve plumb. A carpenters square was used to get me on the money. After the motor was aligned and bolted down, I began work on the torsion arms. With some 1/4 in plate and my oxy/a...

Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

Made the leg shims. Mr. Decot would pour babbit inbetween as a custom shim. Not having the tools or equipment to cast babbit, I merely cut and ground some 1/8 flat stock till the legs fit plumb. With the legs mounted straight. I could then begin the construction of the motor mount plate and torsion ...

Re: Apparently San Bernardino has a Gas Mobil Directo

Kole Moore contacted the fire station a few weeks ago and apparently they actually had this particular unit running about 7-8 years ago. It's really hard to see through the trees. Would love to have a local go snap some better pictures Never knew that, super cool. I recently picked up a new camera ...

Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

Got the NOS Lovejoy mounted. Had to cut the Baldors main shaft a little, took 7/8in off to get everything to line up. Need to go to my trusted welder to get some 1/2in plate for the motor mount, and some 1/4in for the side torsion braces.

Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

Lovejoy couplers have been ordered. Cut 7/8 in of the fan-side shaft- I was then able to fit the 10HP Baldor underneath the Model 12. I think a simple 1/2in steel plate cut in somewhat a "H" shape will make it so the thing will mount right. I will then make torsion brackets to tie in the o...

Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

I also was able to spec out a set of Lovejoy couplers to connect the two up. A L100 series set was found. The sirens shaft is 1 1/8 in with a oddball 5/16 keyway. The Baldor has a 1 3/8 shaft with a standard 5/16 keyway. A few clicks on ebay and I scored a NOS set for $20 shipped to my door. What a ...

Re: Decot Model 12 Red Arrow Restoration

When I got it home, I just couldn't resist reinstalling the legs and tipping the thing back right-side up. So that's What I did. Teddy Decot would pour babbitt in-between the interface of the legs and the siren head as fine-tuned shims, and I can see why. It's a bit of a uneven fit without these. I ...
