Re: Restoring one of Milwaukee's Gasoline Mobil Directos!

Well. You know that pinhole in the oil pan I was talking about, it's more than a pinhole, it's a veritable piece of Swiss cheese! When I pulled it off I spotted the tiny little hole, so I took the wire brush to the surface to start the prep for a possible weld/jb weld repair. I quickly discovered th...

Re: ASC job questions?

Tyler, my best advice would be to head down there in person and talk to them directly with resume in hand. I'm sure like any other company right now, are looking for production help. Showing up in person shows initiative. Perhaps get a personal introduction from Tom, Josh, or Connor at SWS, that wou...

Re: Fond Du Lac's Old Thunderbolts

I might be able to look to see if it was moved- most likely was. I can try to find other photos aswell See if you can find any photos of the "new" city/County building. It was built in the early 1980s. It had the roof mount Tbolt from then until the mid 1990s in the NW corner of the build...

Congrats on his first siren! It appears to be a hand cranked Secomak. The experts here can chime in on the exact model!

Re: Fond Du Lac's Old Thunderbolts

Wow! There it is, the "combination building" Thunderbolt. Prior to this, all we had was the black and white newspaper clipping from when it was installed. Just speculation, but I wonder if this one was moved to the city/county building in the late 70s when that was built. After that, I'm p...

Re: Restoring one of Milwaukee's Gasoline Mobil Directos!

Got the hardware for the throttle solenoid all finished and installed. Tested and it was 100% successful. Did initially run into the issue of the return spring on the governor linkage being too aggressive and pulling the solenoid plunger to far out for the magnetic flux to pull it back in. Removed t...

Re: Restoring one of Milwaukee's Gasoline Mobil Directos!

Yes, as of the past couple weeks- I do have the projector off and the chopper blocked off for the time being, so regular un-muffled tests are postponed for the next little bit

Re: Restoring one of Milwaukee's Gasoline Mobil Directos!

Got a brake cable from a local bike shop made up. I then began machining the bushings that the cable is installed in that will actuate the governor linkage. I also acquired a vintage GE timer box that will house all of the control circuitry. More work to come tommorow. The goal is to test the functi...

Re: What was the original siren in Kenton Ohio?

I looked at archival street view all the way to 2008, and it appears there was actually no siren up to the point the 508 was installed. Maybe there was one long ago. It does look like the fire station is fron the 1970s. I wonder if there was one when that station was first built
