It's not a fact of protection, it's just that me and my roommate here are trying to collect as much useless crap by the end of the year. We just bought a 4-channel light controller (120vac plugin lights only) and a rotating blue beacon plus a party strobe light to go along with it. I was hoping to get a siren that would work with the controller without a convertor just so that I could have a siren in the collection ^.^ but we also wanted to have an electronic chime or something like that for channel 4. So, it would be rot. light channel 1, strobe channel 2, siren channel 3, buzzer/chime/flashing light next to door channel 4.
If you have any useless emergency equipment you see that would work (from eBay or something) that is not extremely loud (or can control or muffle the volume) go ahead and tell me.

Ever thought of just recording one on an inexpensive residential security alarm driver board, usualy 12 volt, and sending the recorded electromechanical sound through the alarm speaker? Google security alarm products and find a recorded message siren driver and cheap indoor speaker. Then you can make whatever sound yu wanted. Some even come with several different recorded message banks for fire, burg, etc. You could record alert, attack, hi low from an electronic. Let you imagination go wild! I got something similar from allelectronics.com. They have very cheap electronic gadgets and components. Check them out.
Q2B or not 2B that is the question.

Dallas, Oregon, did with their STH-10. They took a long piece of canvas and wrapped it around the horns to lower the sound output.
Daniel,

What are those doorstop alarms?
So far, I haven't found mechanical sirens of anytype here.

How strange Dallas wants to muffle their sirens.
But would they ever be used for anything butests?

Thank you,

I don't understand. Could you exprain?
Try using Engrish, Justin.

But Munk, would you not want a REAL siren, rather than common
ordinary electronicomponents?
I would.

What?!!! "My roomate and I... " Must I larn you Engrish?
(I'm also teaching my Chinese wife.)

Radio Shack no longer has the mechanical motor sirens.
Neither have I found any from other sources; auto partstores, war surplus.
Years ago a Denver war surplustore had a hand-cranked airaid siren.
Athatime I did not pay much attention to it because it was before my siren dimentia developed.

I would too, but I'm 1.) on a tight budget, 2.) in a building built before sound-proofing was invented, and 3.) indoors. And anyways, I'd love to have a Tbolt on the roof here (we have a school-run Modulator that hasn't been used so far this year), but I need something for a quiet security system.

And robert, calm down its a freakin forum not an english class.

Another thought is a junk yard which may have a mechanical auto alarm siren.
In 1976, at a junk yard I found a 24V siren which apparently came from a military vehicle.
I reconnected the field coils so that it would run on 12V.
Wish I had it now.

I'd downvote you but the situation is starting to become more humorous than annoying.

Anyways, I found this siren on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/BURGLAR-FIRE-ALARM- ... dZViewItem

I talked to the auctioneer and he said he has a non-boxed model that hell sell to me for $20, shipping included. Is that a good deal?

I'm gonna buy it.

I used to have a mechanical siren that was mounted to one end of a flashlight! When I was a kid I loved the thing. It took two D sixe batterys and was fairly loud. It measured about 3 inces in diam. It was sold for personel protection before the electronic age! Made of plastic. Its primary use for me was a grass masher. I used to place loads of gras in it and watch it spinn out! I found one on ebay a while back and was tempted to buy it. Might try looking for one of those. It sold for less than $3.
Q2B or not 2B that is the question.
