Shelby Twp, MI - new(?) Mod siren

Sat Dec 15, 2012 12:06 am

So, yesterday whilst on the way to my doctor's office in Shelby Township, I was surprised when travelling the overpass on 22 Mile Rd, and spotted a "new" Modulator siren just outside Lombardo Park. For any MI people, thats on 22 Mile Rd, between Van Dyke and Schoenherr. No clue when it was installed. Thought it was a neat find, since Shelby Township mainly has Whelen 3016s, and some Vortex sirens. This was the first FS siren that I can recall seeing there in years, but I've been in Oakland County for a bit, so Im not 100% on that. As far as I can tell (going by the Mod manual), it's a MOD6048, since theres 6 discs, and a base. Heres a few pics I got of it, using my friend's iPhone (sorry, not very close, but he was in a hurry):

Did this replace the Vortex that got nailed by a car a while back?

Hmm, no clue. As I said, it's been a bit since I've been out that way. Im hoping that EL1998P71 will know more about this one. He's awesome with Macomb County siren info.

This is in fact the one that replaced the Vortex that was knocked over by a car. It's actually a MOD6024 based on the fact that it has only one set of controls; the MOD6032 and MOD6048 has two sets of controls linked together, since the UV controller can only hold up to 6 amplifiers (400W 4-channel each).

Ah, okay - thanks. I usually get those things wrong. Go figure ;)

This mod replaced a vortext from being hit by a car awhile ago.
I don't have any other information on it other than WSS put it in.

Side note, the vortext on 24 mile just east of the m-53 freeway that was almost surrounded by trees is now viewable from all sides. a developer has thinned out the trees.

I think I saw that siren, as well - by some doctors' offices, I believe. Had no time to get a pic, unfortunately. Only other siren pic I got was just the Whelen 3016 next to the new Burger King at 23 & Schoenherr. Nothin' special.

That's west of the freeway. The one i'm talking about is on the east side of the freeway.
