Mobil Directos of Culver City Still Remain

Thu May 01, 2014 3:13 am

I don't know if anyone else knew or discovered this but (thanks to Google Maps,) two out of the three Mobil Directos in Culver City, CA are still currently in place. I believe they're now defunct.

This includes a gasoline powered Mobil Directo located at he Veterans Memorial Park & Auditorium(Note the top part is missing):

Google Maps(New Version. I will use old streetview if requested) Oct 2012:

The second(Actually in LA at Braddock Dr & Sawtelle Blvd) was probably taken down because a small building is now in its place.

The third is on Warner drive and it is all in one piece.

I can bet that thESE sirens are decommissioned due to them facing the same direction as The Siren Archive. This is truly a great find!

The sirens are out of service. They were used as Civil Defense sirens back in the day, but the city didn't see the need to keep using them when the cold war ended.

Mister Coastal here is actually poking around cali for some of their old sirens. Of course I am getting to the point where I will need more room for them though...

If only these were easy to acquire. I know HemiJoe would drive down to cali in a heartbeat to pick them up.
