Upson County Thunderbolt #4 installation

Mon May 12, 2014 10:58 am

This past weekend we installed another Thunderbolt in Upson County. It's a 1000AT A2 from the late 70's.

How deep do you guys usually dig the hole that the pole goes into?

8-10 foot for a 55 foot pole. Depends on soil conditions.

What is the advantages/disadvantages using green treated poles versus those poles that are treated with that orange stuff?

The orange poles (penta ) are better, they are just messy and oily.

The CCA poles are clean to the touch but are hard as a damn rock. Climbing green poles sucks.

There is also CuNap (the other green poles). They smell like diesel and are nice and soft like a penta or creosote pole.

Everybody down here uses CCA poles for some reason. Probably because they are cheap.

Jeb, did you paint the T'bolt? If so what color is it, cat yellow? school bus yellow? sunburst yellow?

Nice! I love that cities still care for T-bolts. It looks like it just came from the Federal Signal factory! I can only think of 1 person responsible for the restore, Jeb.
In my opinion, I think there way too many 2001's in Indiana!

Did you have to remove that large tree pictured in the third photo? Oh wait, that's just Ian's hair. Should have known by the Valley shirt. Great job on the installation as usual!

Hey now, it's not tall enough to be a tree. It's a large bush...get it right! :P
