Siren Chopper "Chop Chop" Demonstration

Tue Sep 02, 2014 5:53 pm

It has been brought up many times here that messing about with choppers can result in the departure of your fingers from your body. In this video the guy is showing off a 3 port Elektror F2 chopper. At around 4 minutes he spins the chopper up then shoves a stick into the port. It chops the tip of the stick off. It gives you an idea of how dangerous these things are.

Oh yeah, the first thing I did when I got my P-15 was put a screen over the ports. Even if you barely spin the rotor on my P-15 it has plenty of momentum to cut off your finger.

Maybe this will put an end to a stupid FAQ: "What would happen if I put my [insert body part here] in it?"

Back in my not-so-smart days, I did a finger spin on a 10V that was lying on the ground. The dumb way. Meaning I tangentially pushed on the rotor via a port. The shock from the finger tip dangling off sideways made the pain disappear. The 5 hour drive (I wasn't driving) was not fun. The worst was they having to pry off the rest of the fingernail to sew the tip back together. I understand why bamboo shoved under fingernails has been used for torture.

I do the same thing. I did it on both Model 5s I assembled and my CDM - Model 2. Better to reduce the chance
of something stupid happening every chance you get.

Yeah, I bought the screen 2 days before I got the siren. Too many horror stories of people like Adam Pollak getting their fingers cut off.

Back when I had my Fedelcode Model 5 I was making a video of me spinning it up (and trying to show off) and went to casually set my hand down on the bottom half of the stator and caught my middle finger in there. I've got a video of it somewhere on my desktop
