That is an Alertronic 6000, it was ACA's most popular rotating electronic siren. Elsewhere in the city was a later version with a smaller 4 throat horn - this was known as the RE-1600 under ASC. I believe they were all replaced as they broke down over the years. There is no way to feasibly repair these sirens once they fizzle out.

I've heard the city was having trouble with them. As is frequently said, electronic sirens do not have a long life and when they get old and worn, it's more cost effective to replace them than to keep spending the money to repair them.

Yeah the EOWS sirens went first. I believe sometime around 2008. Then the one alertronic that got knocked off the pole was gone, now the rest. This one I believe was on Weber Rd around 115th street. They put the new siren on the same pole.

The siren on 115th Street in Bolingbrook, Illinois was a later model with a small 4 throat horn. The same can be said regarding the former installation near Lee Lane. I don't have pictures of the Alertronic near I-55 that got blown off its pole, but I am certain it was the same as the other sirens.

I just checked and that 8 throat siren in the first post's picture appears to have been taken from a video recorded in Grand Prairie, Texas.

I thought that looked familiar.

However, the Grand Prairie one has been replaced as well, with a T-128.

Yes superbanshee. The one near 55 was also a 4 throat. I believe that's all of them. There may have been 4 total, but probably just the 3. The rest were eows 612s.

Why were they hard to fix? We're their parts not easy to get a hold of?
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, for starters ACA is out of business. They were bough out by ASC. Plus this siren is no longer manufactured. ASC does make electronic sirens, the E-class and I-FORCE, but they aren't rotating, and the problem was likely in the rotator or control units.
Whatever you do, don't push that big red button🔴!!!
