Vortex "restoration"

Tue Mar 29, 2022 2:48 am

I have acquired a top head for my Vortex and will be cleaning everything up. Painting it and getting it installed at the tower site.
Not sure if there is interest in seeing a restoration thread on a Vortex or not. But I will be rebuilding the gear box and some other stuff that's not typically documented here.
If there is interest I will make the effort to take pictures and post them... if not I will not bother other than the finished unit in the air.

I think restoration photos would be really nice! There's not a whole lot of pictures of the internals of Whelens out there, and I think it'd be very interesting to see!

I agree with Snowpix! I don't think we've ever seen a Whelen restoration of any kind yet. It would be neat to see the inner workings of a Whelen rotator and how the hard-wiring looks compared to collector rings on other sirens.
