Civil Defense Logo Recreation

Fri Apr 19, 2024 2:07 am

So first, I’ll start off with the main question, does anyone know how the civil defense logo was added to the sirens? Were they painted or were they ingrained, or was there another method? The reason why I’m asking this is because I would like to restore one of my personal sirens that has two civil defense logo on them that have faded quite badly. I would like to make the siren as close to the original as possible without taking out anything if I don’t have to. However I can barely recognize the letters CD anymore, so does anyone know how they were pit on originally?

The CD logo was typically a decal that they would put on the siren. They usually used a highly adhesive sticker or glued the decal onto the siren itself.

If you need it, here's an original CD logo you can use:

Some sirens, mainly on ACA's sirens, used a version of the Civil Defense logo which had "This is a unit of your Civil Defense" on it.

I have never seen that, my siren has the other CD logo but that is cool. Thanks for letting me know!

I once saw a 3T22 box (removed and replaced with a beautiful red STH-10) that remained even though the 3T22 was gone and it had the “FS&S” original logo and the Civil Defense sticker with the “this is a unit of your civil defense” on the side. It was extremely faded though and I could barley read it out

Federal Signal used screen printed water slide decals for all of their Civil Defense emblems op until the end. I think ACA used the vinyl peel and stick decals with the “THIS IS A UNIT OF YOUR CIVIL DEFENSE” wording around the circumference of the Civil Defense emblem.
