Siren in Pripyat (Chernobyl)

Thu Feb 16, 2023 7:53 pm

Hi everyone,

I came across this image when I was looking at some pics of the ghost town Pripyat. What type of siren is this?

I believe it’s a an S-40 (“C-40” in Cyrillic), a common Soviet siren made by several companies.

Wow! That is really interesting! I never knew Chernobyl had sirens. That there is probably the most radioactive siren in the world.
Also a side note, the forest of dead trees in the background is the "Red Forest", which were trees that were killed off from radiation particles at the height of the disaster, causing them to die.

Wow, very nice spot! I wonder if this went off during the meltdown - if it already wasn’t scary enough being in the middle of a nuclear disaster, imagine being there as this thing was sounding…

Also, I sorta felt like I had to reply here since the other furries have too haha…

This is a good question if this went off or not, I'd like to imagine that it did went off that night, pretty sure there *might be* recordings with it sounding off.
