Israeli Air Raid Sirens

Sun Dec 09, 2007 11:32 pm

You can hear a lot of (presumably) mechanical sirens in attack here, though unlike in the U.S., this is actually to warn of a rocket attack. Do any of you know anything about these sirens?

Some of them are German-made HLS sirens. I hate it that every time someone posts a video involving Israel, every neo-Nazi and Muslim extremist turd on Youtube has to leave some racist comment.

Yeah, I hate that too, especially because...I am Jewish!

What's with those HLS sirens? They sound really good...we could use some over here. You know, all German sirens, whether they are Hormann's electronic ones with the squished-looking horns or the ubiquitous mechanical E57 that looks like a street lamp or these giant HLSs...they all seem to be great sirens. American companies today could learn a thing or two from them.

I believe that Germany has established standards for outdoor warning sirens that include the allowable pitch range of around 440 Hz. That's why their sirens always sound that pitch, while those in England, Portugal, Spain, and Italy have a variety of pitches. None of them are as high pitched as American sirens, and this is due both to our higher line frequency and our lack of standards for outdoor warning sirens. Also, since the development of the Chrysler and Thunderbolt, American cities are accustomed to installing larger sirens in fewer places, while the European concept involves smaller sirens in more places, which gives better coverage if one fails.

I think that I'm hearing an F71 if not some funky sound style over some ELS.

So this is an HLS...

And this is a kind of siren from Israel...

Similarities?
I think so.
That certainly helps answer our questions...
