Thunderbolt 1000T or 1003 chopper & blower on 50 cycles

Thu May 15, 2008 11:28 pm

I've heard on You Tube of what a 2T22 or 3T22 sounds like on 50 cycles & what a Carters or similar sounds like on 60 cycles but what about a Thunderbolt 1000T or 1003 chopper & blower sounds like on 50 cycles even an ACA Hurricane if they are used in the UK on 50 cycles?

Cycles and Hz are basically the same thing. Cycles per second (or alternation speed) is the pololitically corect way to say.

The term "Hertz" wasn't used until fairly recently in the grand scheme of things.

On a Thunderbolt, it would be hard to tell the difference because of the seven available chopper speeds. Generally, figure the tone will be a major third lower than on 60 Hz., for example, a single-tone 1000 sounding a "C" note on chopper speed 4 at 60 Hz. would probably sound an "Ab" note on 50 Hz. with the same chopper setting.

I don't know that the Tbolt chopper would sound much different (if at all) between 50/60 Hz power; it's a series-wound motor (not synchronous) so it's mostly dependent on the voltage supplied.

Jim Z is correct: A series-wound motor's speed won't change with frequency- only voltage and amperage DELIVERY CAPABILITY.
