No folks - that's the old system. The new system is all ATI HPSS32 - ~50 of them, if I remember correctly.

Re: Nuclear Power Plant Siren Systems

Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:17 pm

[quote="Adam Pollak"]This is the "master" list of nuclear power plant warning systems in the U.S. It's primary purpose is to help those exploring around, such as when on road trips, to know what sirens they may come across in certain areas. If all the 64 active plants did not have ocean in their Emergency Planning Zones, the total area with sirens would be around 20,000 square miles.

Well I was out in Beaver County, Pa taking fire truck pictures and I must say... they have done a good job of throwing 2001's up and taking down Alertors for the Beaver Valley system....2001's everywhere.. hardly any Alertors. There were still a number of Banshee's up which was sort of surprising.

Beaver Valley even has Klaxon horns as part of their siren system - they are at the nudist colony along the PA-OH border.

There was a small article in the paper last night that the LaSalle County (IL) EMA will be doing a "special test" of 2 of their 50 sirens for Exelon Nuclear at 2pm on Aug. 14th, the regular statewide test was today a 10am. One quote in the story was: "This upgrade project will enhance the system already in place with newer more efficient battery backed-up sirens". I know one of the locations had a T-bolt the last time I went by there, I'll have to drive past and see if there's something new.

Yep, the Thunderbolt is gone and there's a brand new T-135 AC/DC on a taller pole in it's place.

The ginna plant, in New York, has a system of powder blue ACA P-10s and Banshees. There are 96 sirens in their system.

Where exactly was that Thunderbolt? I seem to recall another member on the board that found one in Marseilles. What model was it? When was it installed?

I have pics that I took in July 2005, of the T-135 (NON-battery backup) siren that's just off I-80.

The T-bolt that was replaced was a 1000 and was about 3 miles south of town out in the country, there are T-bolts (and many other types of sirens) all over this part of the county for Exelon LaSalle station that were put up in the late 70s. There are 2 Thunderbolts in town: one on the main road into town from I-80 that's a mile south of the T-135 you're talking about, and one next to the school (2 blocks from my house) that I watched them put up over 2 days when I was 8 years old. There was a STH-10 on the west end of town at the sewage treatment plant, but it has just been replaced in the last month with another T-135 AC/DC. There is another T-135/P-50 3 miles west of there.
There are pics of some of them on this thread:
http://www.airraidsirens.com/forums/vie ... marseilles
The red, white & blue siren is a 70 year old model 7 at the fire station, I helped put it on its new tower in '96. It's tested in attack every Monday at 6pm and sounds alert for tornadoes and attack for fires.

Sorry for the long answer to a simple question, just thought I'd throw that info out there.
