Sentry Defender heard in Ames

Not my video, but the single tone siren you're hearing is a Sentry Defender. It sounds quite similar to a P-15 in my opinion. This was the tornado that hit during an ISU football game back in '05. There's also a 1000T set to 8RPM which I've heard from campus once when a 2T22 failed. The video must have been shot in north Ames though since that's where the Defender is. I'll try and snap some pictures of it if I get around to it though I doubt I'll be able to get a video during a test.

The pitch is the same as a P-15, but it has that classic Sentry "huskiness," probably from its long, rectangular ports. Nice recording.

I also hear some dual tone Thunderbolts in this clip sounding in minor third.
Federal Signal Thunderbolt Series, still the King of Air Raid Sirens!

I posted it on the board's Youtube group about a year ago I think. I thought it was a single tone Allertor back then, but we only have one Allertor and it's 9/12.

The Defender was only installed in 2004 so it will be interesting to see if they replace it or not. In the Capital Improvement Plan when they talk about sirens they keep referring to the City-Wide Mass Communication System or something like that. I can't help but wonder if they want voice sirens for the whole city. They've supposedly ordered 10 new sirens from Federal but I don't know if they're Modulators or 2001s. Incidently the Mods on campus have not gone off for the past 2 out of 3 tests including last Wednesday, don't know what that's all about...

Wow, first time I've heard a Defender in the wild and I must say, it sounds good! Does anyone know how many actually are out in the wild? Can't be that many

Cool, a Defender! That's now 2 vids I've seen with that audio or picture of the siren in it. The other one was on Sirens for Cities.
There is a thunderbolt siren in my head, it is always going off...
