Love how all those Whelens wind down in harmony at the end.

I've heard that before, but I still can't help calling it Fast Wail.

What does Whelen call the regular Wail signal?

Exactly that, it's the "wail" signal.

Those sound exactly like the DAEC sirens. I remember someone commenting once on my DAEC siren videos that this particular tone set was used while Whelen was transitioning from the 2016/3016 to the 4004, so there was a short period of time during which all three models sound almost identical (yet also different from the most common variants of their respective series). It's an unusual tone set indeed!

The video is from Marion, IA so they are part of the DAEC sirens.

Bigloudnoise, I wonder if you videoed any of the siren units heard in this video. The lower pitched Whelen in the distance sounds a whole lot like the early 4004 you recorded.

I love the sound of the DAEC system, even though there isn't a single electro-mechanical siren in it. It's nice to hear all of those different pitches coming from all of those Whelens. It also sounds like they did an excelent job with siren placement.

Whelens, in my opinion, have the coolest sounding attack tone. I particularly like the much lower pitched ones (not the 3016s, but ones like the original Vortex), mainly because I grew up and live with a nearby Vortex in attack. Honestly, I don't see why people despise Whelens so much.
The sniper rifle. For when you want to reach out and touch someone. Like blow their head off.

Ninja,
I like Whelen's tones a bit, but I rather an EOWS 612. I just like the mechanical sirens much more like the Thunderbolt, Gents, #T22, T-Beam, and STH-STL-10s.
So, apparently, I like Federal Signal...

Cool! The first time I saw this video last night, the location and date of recording hadn't been included in the video description. Nice to know someone else got video of the sirens sounding for the test this month, because I once again missed my opportunity to record a 3016 that day.

Unfortunately not. Vinton is about 25 miles away from Marion, too far away to record any of the sirens there. The problem with the monthly test being performed Wednesday mornings is that I have only 10 minutes after it's over to go to work, which limits me to a radius of about 8 miles or so from town for my siren recordings. And, since Vinton is officially outside the DAEC emergency planning zone, I have to go out into the rural areas away from town to record the sirens on test day. This limits me to only a half dozen or so sirens I'm able to record.
