If you could remake any discontinued siren models

Thu Feb 15, 2007 5:22 pm

What siren models would you remake? I would remake the thunderbolt series with the 2001's current rotator and improve the blower assembly by using gears instead of belts. I would use stainless steel for the hardware and would use more efficient motors without sacrificing too much power, but just enough to utilize battery backup.
Federal Signal Thunderbolt Series, still the King of Air Raid Sirens!

Why not a direct-drive blower? That way you wouldn't need any gears. I'd use a Briggs & Stratton E-Tek motor to drive it.

How about a dual-toned 2001 called: 2001T -130! (with option
of 6/5 or 5/4 port ratio. 8)

A dual-tone 2001 would be very hard to do. It would require a complete redesign of the ring radiator to be able to accomodate an extra set of ports.

Yeah, you'd need to increase the circumference of the output director, so that it could accommodate two rows of ports.

I'd give anything to put the HLS series back into production, if not just having the old ones restored and exported here, into America and Canada.

I would have to say the 3T22, but with a very big change in port ratio's. Sure it can do the HI-LO and people would be able to tell, but the lower tone should be even lower! I would say from the 10, change it to a 5 or 7 so you can REALLY notice the tone change! 8)

I think a "new age" componet siren like a T-bolt or even a Hurricane, with a more efficent blower, rotator, and higher decibel range, also with a better telemerty system and battery back up would sweeten the pot

XT22, STX10, SD10, Model 5, Penetrator, Banshee, and Screamer, all with DC motors.

You're joking, aren't you? Those things would be prohibitively expensive.

I would remake the classic Carters-style benchgrinder with a DC motor and battery system. I'd have the motor speed regulated at 2,880 RPM for the standard British pitch which all Americans recognize from old movies as a civil defence siren. Then I would undercut the market with a simple, inexpensive siren and control system that any city could afford and any local electrician could install.
