Schenectadycountysiren's questions

Sat Dec 22, 2012 7:45 pm

Hi! Im new to The Siren Board! I have had an interest in sirens for a long time, seeing as I am surrounded by an stl-10, a 2001-DC and a model 5T/7T!
:D
Although I understand most things about sirens, I do have a few questions:
What does N/H stand for?
Why are some sirens that are older painted black?
Is there an application to find sirens on an iOS device?
Thanks. Here is a list of sirens that I know of in my reigon:
Black Jailbar Thunderbolt (Schenectady) :D
SD-10 (Niskyuna)
STL-10 (Delanson)
2001-DC (Delanson)
Model 5T/7T (Duanesburg)
Model 5 (Schenectady county)
STH-10 (Princeton, Albany, and Schenectady (2))
Diaphone (Albany)
3T22 (South Glenns Falls VFD) :D
Sterling M-10? (Rotterdam)

To answer that first question, I know that with Federal's Eclipse product, the N/H means that there is no horns.

What does N/H stand for? - Like aforementioned, "No Horns", used by Federal Signal

Why are some sirens that are older painted black? - Just depends on whatever the city/county/owner wants. Not really dependent on age.

Is there an application to find sirens on an iOS device? - No, but that would be cool. I've worked with a few other people to create a siren map of sirens in all 50 states, I don't know how I could get it into an app. If you're interested, click here to visit the map.

Hope I answered your questions - welcome to the board!

Thanks! The second question was because the thunderbolt in Schenectady was black and I thought it had to do with age

Where is the Thunderbolt? I would like to add it to my New York siren map.

If you know where Watt street is, near the Home Depot, floow it towards a newer loooking broadcasting station I think, it is atop an old brick building, I cannot remember well, sorry.

Hey, I live pretty close to you. Perhaps we should meet up someday and so some recording. There's plenty of sirens in NY, it's just a little bit harder to find them due to the pretty mild weather here.

I have marked on my map what I think is a Jailbar Thunderbolt right in Schenectady, on Albany Street. If you could take pictures and confirm that, that would be great.

It's a jailbar Thunderbolt:

Pretty cool to have one of these so close-by. I doubt it's still active, but I sure wish it was.
