anyone know about this? four rotor carter siren

Sorry in advanced for all the new posts.

anyways. I'm pretty sure it's a Carter. but what is the point of adding extra rotors? it doesn't seem like it would change the sound output, or would it? Id love to hear this thing in person or see one on a video. It would take a powerful motor to turn all that metal

With supposedly double the input power and output devices, you could theoretically bump the sound rating up by almost 3 dB. But man, I do love looking at those old British sirens, they're a work of art!

It seems like all the mounting and bracketry needed for such a large siren would make it Rather uneconomical to mount. You would need at least two poles to mount the thing, or a large tower as was done here. It would make more sense to just mount two regular carters spaced out than one massive one. Cool siren all the same.

Yes, although most of these would be stationed upon rooftops in downtown Britain. Smaller Carter sirens, such as the Gents, required much less mounting equipment, and would be mounted upon poles in smaller, less populated areas.

That's not the same siren, but it's a tri tone siren significantly smaller than the one you originally posted. I've wondered for years what that huge Carter type siren is; the one I just linked is a Gents tri tone.

In the Gents catalog, this was their largest model - basically two standard sirens linked by a larger motor. Their sirens were available in different combinations of eight, ten, and twelve ports, with ten/twelve being the most common. There is a video somewhere of a British-made eight/twelve siren being set off at a reenactment.

I believe so. to remove it they'd have to tear apart the bell tower around it so I see no reason why it wouldn't still be there

I just Googled bomb siren and found this blog. its rather interesting
