German Pintsch Bamag HLS on tour ;)

Tue Apr 10, 2007 7:26 pm

Hi!

Here are some pictures of a HLS which has been on the roof of an police building in Kassel, Germany. The administrators of www.hochleistungssirene.de and the FHZB, an association which is working on a civil defense museum, could prevent the siren of getting scrapped. It was transported to the musem in Hamburg where it will be issued.

I took this photo last week:

In a few months it will look as good as new. ;)

Here you can read some more about the Pintsch Bamag. German skills could be helpful. 8)

Very nice picture. I really hope to see these beasts roar again! How many pounds do you think that the head of the siren weighs?

Sorry I don't know. We haven't found anything concerning the weight but I can help out with the measurements of the siren head:

Height: 3.23 meters
Diameter: 1,185 meters

BTW: the hyperlinks are quite hard to see. I've underlined them in the first posting.

I think you mean 1.185 Meters ?

A siren that is slightly over a kilometer wide would be heard a long way away

In German and many other languages, a comma is used as we use a decimal point, and a period is used to separate thousands as we use a comma. German usage is the reverse of English usage, so "one thousand, one-hundred, and eighty-five point three" would read 1,185.3 in England or America, but 1.185,3 in Germany.

Of course I mean Meters. In Germany we use the comma for decimal places. ;)
