Yatesville, GA Fedelcode Model 7 and Thunderbolt test

Sun Mar 09, 2014 12:13 am

Today, Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 12:09:35 PM marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.

Anyways, Yatesville, GA's fire department commenced the final test of the old Federal Electric Model 7A. And almost immediately after the end of the 3 minute attack cycle, they start the first full test run of the Model 7's replacement, a clean, refurbished Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000AT (Series A2) in attack for 3 minutes. And after the 3 minute attack cycle on the thunderbolt, it surprisingly fires up again, this time in a 3 minute cycle of alert.

Ok, enough talk, here's the video. Enjoy!

Yatesville, GA Thunderbolt test

Sun Mar 09, 2014 12:16 am

The first official run of the 1964 A2 Thunderbolt and the last of the old WWII era Model 7 occurred today in Yatesville. I managed to get videos of both of them. Overall, both of them sounded freakin' amazing. The Tbolt definitely took the cake for me, even though the 7 was nice. The videos were taken with my iPhone, so please excuse the shoddy quality of them.

Video 1 (Model 7 in Attack, along with the Tbolt in attack):

Video 2 (Tbolt in Alert)

and for giggles, I got some pictures of the siren post-test:

Awesome video TNT1001! :) What do they plan on doing with the model 7? Are they getting rid of it?
Back with good behavior. ;)

It's going to be displayed at a park next to the county's first fire engine.

The Tbolt reminds me of Charlie Davidson's Tbolt when he used to have it on level 6.

Wonder if anyone recorded these sirens from a distance?

If this Thunderbolt is a Three Phase model, put on Chopper Level 6, but sounds like a Chopper Level 5 pitch, then wouldn't it be a Single Phase model?

You can't have a Three phase and a single phase motor at the same time. It's either one or the other.

Its on level 5.

The chopper motor is single phase. Two legs of three phase is single phase. You can have both at the same time.

Yatesville Model 7A and 1000AT with Good Reverb

Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:09 pm

No use in me saying what happened on Saturday since everyone for the most part knows. This is my first time in 11 years hearing a 1000T, I almost cried tears of joy... and pain as it was LOUD AS HELL. It made my ears ring and vibrated my chest and the ground where I stood. I have my other videos on my phone, just need to pull them and put them up on YT when I get home from school and have the time (Hotspot Shield lets me see YouTube but not upload). I recorded this behind the fire house so I could pick up the sound from the sirens as it echoed throughout the environment, with out being blasted by the sirens (mic maxed). I had to use the YouTube editor to mix the audio and video together, and with the way it came out it left the recording sounding like the mic maxed, but that is YouTube being a d***. This is how it came out. Pictures and video clips in the video are mine. I also found the picture of the Thunderbolt that stood in our neighborhood next to the replacement WPS 2810 and got the idea to do a tribute to our old system by showing five sirens that replaced Thunderbolts according to my copy of the 1981 Siren Study for the city of Columbus. 10 'bolt 1000ATs with 4500 feet of coverage and 17 SD-10s (I think they were all single phase) with 2000 feet of coverage.
