Castle Casting Siren in the United States

Fri Jun 09, 2017 1:58 pm

I have seen this siren in person a few times and always just thought it was a Federal Model B derivative, it is located at the Stroud Township Fire Department in Stroudsburg, Pa at the Stroud Mall. I was researching another siren in the Stroudsburg area when I came across this youtube video (https://youtu.be/NT6-fgAC-cg) that is clearly of a 10/12 port siren, the description of the firehouse fits (a single story station in the middle of the Stroudsburg Mall) and it was recorded in 2014.. the Streetview shot was taken in 2016 (with a better shot of it from 2015). So what do we say, is this indeed a Castle Casting style 10/12 port siren??

It's not a Castle Castings style siren, it IS a Castle Castings siren! Fun fact: Castle Castings sirens had directional rotors, improving output.

Yea that's a vote for castle castings on my end as well. I'm thinking it's one anyway...

Actually, I think my vote goes to this being a CLM mailbox siren. In the night time video shown, the siren has a raspier sound to it(at least to me) where castle casting sirens seem to have a more smooth sound to them. Listen to the night time activation and then to this. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=faq-oxKZdg4

Another thing to note is that the CLM mailbox is also 10/12 port. So in my opinion this could be a castle castings or a CLM.

Looking at it again and it looks either to be a CLM mailbox siren core, which could be right, but coming from someone from England who has seen Castle Castings, Carter sirens etc., it also looks like a Carter siren, (which basically means ignore my previous comment on this thread) and not a Castle Castings which is slightly smaller than a Carter, and it also has a disc which covers the intake and makes the intake hole smaller.
