New siren pictures! (And pictures from md5)

Mon Nov 05, 2007 4:17 am

Here are some pictures i have taken over the past month or so.
*Please dis-regard the date on the pictures as it may not be accurate.*

Kansas City, KS:
Kansas Speedway

Tonganoxie, KS:
Brand new 2001 near a new housing area off of US 24-40
Tonganoxie City Hall
Leavenworth County has very good maintenance and upkeep on their sirens. All of their original Thunderbolts (and Thunderbeam) are still up and running (except for 1 at Ft. Leavenworth) The only thing is they are puting up some 2001s in areas with growth.

Williamstown, KS:
Single tone Banshee located at US 24 & US 59
*I am planing on video recording this Banshee in January so wish me luck!*

Berryton, KS:
Berryton Grade School
Controls
For being a 2001 the controls are very rusted. Does anyone know what the yellow box is for? None of our other 2001s have this yellow box.

Pauline, KS:
Forbes Field
A STH-10...in Shawnee County?! Well, make that a half STH-10.
Half STH-10
Close up
This half STH-10 is located on a Water tower in the Montara subdivision. I believe theire is another half STH-10 on the other side of the tower because this one only covers the southern side. I would have taken a better picture but there was some old women giving me a dirty look so i decided i better snap a quick one and get outta there before the sherrif showed up. Will try and get a better one soon.

Topeka, KS:

Better veiw of the Downtown Topeka Thunderbolt
500AT on top a 13 story building at Sw 21st & Gage. *I am planing on video recording this the next Monday i have off from school*
Logan Jr.High *Note that the blower is mounted pretty high. None of the Thunderbolts in this area have blowers mounted on the ground.
Veiw from the front
Sw 10th & Fairlawn - No, the 2t22 is not ontop the power pole. It is on its own seperate pole.
Close up - Does it look like the horns are a wee bit bent? Also, i hope to record this sometime in December.

Will have more to come in the future!

Thats exactly how our thunderbolts are mounted. When the city had to relocate two of them (we have 5 thunderbolt 1003's) they only mounted them on one pole.It would have been cheaper to put them up this way. I bet it gives extra support in high winds.

By the way nice pictures :)

Thought i would post a few pictures up myself also, since most pictures I see here are from the kansas area...

I took most of these from my palm phone, so no good resolutions on them. I have a picture from this past years flood in kansas with a thunderbolt somewhere and a recent picture of the same siren which was in the flood area. The phone images are rather warped when you are going 70mph down a freeway. =p

EoWs, Tbolt and a Whelen is what I saw on my way back from Branson, MO. [they have quite a few whelens in Branson.]

Whelen: http://bctrainers.homeip.net/s/whelen.jpg - Siren was over on the missouri side.
Tbolt: http://bctrainers.homeip.net/s/clintonMO.jpg
I personally thought Johnson country, KS rid of all these sirens a few years ago: eows? http://bctrainers.homeip.net/s/leawoodKS.jpg

Lane KS Tbolt: I will look for the flood pictures this past year of this one.

Nice pictures! I did not know Johnson County had EOWS's. Do you know where the one that you took a picture of is located at? Thats a weird setup the Lane Thunderbolt has, Do you remeber its location?

I'll have to pull up its exact location on google maps. I never wrote down what roads all the sirens were on. :(

The lane thunderbolt makes perfect sense after i can find the Southeast flood pictures. You'll see why it was built like that :x

EDIT: Here's that flood picture: http://bctrainers.homeip.net/s/P1010067-1280.jpg

EDIT2.1: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&om= ... 4&t=h&z=16

On that road there somewhere, it was atop the hill of the road.

Thanks. Nice flood pictures! Topeka experienced major flooding in early May, causing USD 501 to close school. I don't think any sirens were under water tho.

Yeah, that flood earlier this year was quite the eye opener. I have a slew of flood pictures on my other pc somewhere from this past year.

On the Ks Speedway picture there, that's the siren next to that large phone tower, no?

It's the pole with the white horn on top of it. I do not see a cellphone tower in that photo.

Just out of curiousity but is it possible a tbolt with a higher mounted blower could be louder since the boost has a lesser distance to travel? Is it possible there could be any air leaks between near the ground and the very top with low mounted blowers?
