The 3 Whelen Vortexes in Malta, NY

Sun Jan 21, 2024 8:38 pm

About 2 years ago, I was driving through Malta, NY when I found a Whelen Vortex siren, I was pretty excited about it since I've never seen one before. But upon research and trying to find out when they test, I found out that there are 2 more in Malta, turns out Malta has it's own public warning system. It seemed a little odd to me since literally no other town in the county had a siren system like this except for the sirens at their fire stations. One day I headed back up there and got pictures of all 3 of them, those images are attached below, here is also a siren map I made of these 3 sirens: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9696531 ... ?entry=ttu

If anyone knows anything about this siren system or when they test, please let me know, I would really like to see a Whelen Vortex in action without having to drive 30+ miles from my house.

Thanks!

I'm from Rensselaer County, NY, where we have a wide variety of sirens!
