What to Record (UPDATE: Videos Posted!)

Fri Feb 01, 2008 6:36 pm

This Tuesday I plan on making a video of one of the sirens here in town (this time with a tripod). Here are the options...
The TBolt 1003 on campus.
Image
The Riverfront Park 3T22.
Image
The Marcotte Park TBeam RSH10.
Image
Or a system recording where you can see the campus 1003 in the distance but you can hear the 3T22 and the RSH10.
Image
I'd prefer doing a system recording because I have yet to hear the 3T22 or the RSH10 since I'm always on campus with the 1003 drowning out everything. I'll leave it up to you guys though. Also, they only test in alert and attack. Just leave a comment saying what you want to have recorded.

Definitely get a recording of the system (unless the 1003 is in hi-lo of course ), there aren't many more chances we will have to get system wide recordings as the older sirens are phased out.

I believe we're one of the very few communities that doesn't have any new sirens in the system at all. Bradley and Kankakee both have mostly or all 2001s and Bourbonnais still has all of their original civil defense sirens. I'm actually pretty surprised because Bourbonnais is doing the best economically and is experiencing the most growth in the county. You would think they'd have the funds to overhaul the whole system, but they seem prety content with what they have.

If the Thunderbolt isn't doing a hi-lo signal, I would vote for the 3T22.

Like I said, alert and attack only. They don't do hi-lo.

I vote for a system recording, but I'd like for the TBolt to be the closest siren. Don't let it completely drown out the other sirens, but I would like for it to be the loudest. Good luck on your recording.

Record the system, it would sound great. I stayed here at the house today and recorded Muncie's. Thunderbolt-1000, Banshee, and an SD-10. Then after they deactivate Ball States Whelen's started up. Systems wide test just sound better.
