Decot Sirens

Wed Jul 12, 2006 1:14 pm

I recently looked at pictures on the Wisconsin Siren site.

There are some pictures of Decot sirens there. I've never heard of this siren; would like to know more about it.

The Decot was made by a guy named Mr(Can't remember his name) Decot in the 30's all the way to the early 50's in his Sauk City, WI workshop/factory.
Mr. Decot was very inovaitive man, and his Decot siren went through many changes throughout its main production years. The best Decots put out at least 128Db. They are very simply built, but are ultra reliable and built to last.
One unique thing that he had in his workshop was a "testing chamber"( a pit in the floor) where he would put one of his finished sirens in and, run it up to full speed to see if the rotors or motors would blow up.

I bet some others could chime in too about this wonderful siren!!

FYI, Decot is pronounced Deck-oh

I'll bet his neighbors loved him!

Yes, I am, one of the wonderful characteristics of the Decot-high sound outputs. One of my friends Bill said it can defitnitly out-perform the Allertor that is near to his house. The Allertor actually only puts out about 125-127 decibels (depending on chopper/stator combo)

That would be cool if the Decot could be made again(repro made from originals), I bet if they could get the word out, they would sell like hotcakes! It would by times cheaper to make than a T-128 or 2001, and would be just as effective!!

How would the patents, whatever they are, on a Decot still be valid now? Patents are good for 17 years.

Ted's son could have kept renewing the patent?

He's most likely still alive today...

Possible, but renewals are not automatically granted.
