Air raid sirens in Israel/Lebanon

Sat Jul 15, 2006 2:18 am

With the upcoming war, does Israel or Lebanon possess any air raid sirens? I would imagine they would be installed soon, if not.

Israel has air raid sirens, found an article on google about them being used during the first gulf war.

I have heard recordings of sirens in Israel and there seem to be a variety of types used. Some sound like the E-57, with 9 and 10-port variations. Others are much lower in pitch, like an STL-10 being run on 50 Hz. or a Model 2 running on 120 volts. These low-pitched sirens are slow-moving and very impressive. It is unfortunate that they are having to use them, though.

According to CNN, in Haifa, Israel air raid sirens sound daily and people run to bomb shelters when they sound.

While I like hearing sirens in general, the thought of imminent war bothers me. I cringe whenever I hear the sirens on TV from over there. I don't like hearing them for this purpose. :(

I found this video on youtube.com that someone took during a rocket attack in Haifa with the sirens in the background:

its cool to hear these sirens from around the world but its also a sign of life passing on becuse every time they sound with in minutes rockets hit random buildings and with the way things are going god forbid we have to send our own troops in.

To me it sounds like an omnidirectional, one-phase, small-rotor siren, probably a bit smaller than the E-57. Sounds like one of Belgrade's sirens.
