ACA Screamer at my boy scout camp

Sun Jul 30, 2006 3:16 pm

I just bot back from summer camp at Napowan Adventure Base in Wild Rose, WI and they recently trashed their old siren and bought an ACA screamer. I am confused because it sounded nothing like this recording of a screamer: http://www.airraidsirens.com/mp3/screamer2hp.mp3

but it sounded almost exactly like this recording of a model 7 low tone: http://www.airraidsirens.com/mp3/model7low.mp3

anyone know why their screamer is like that? they said the siren could be heard all over their 500 acre camp, if that info is of any help to you.

Screamers came in 2 an 7 HP, Dual Toned or Single, then there are
always custom port numbers and motor settings.

I have heard many recordings of Screamers sounding like the
Model 7 Low-Tone clip you posted, so i guess its a popular model.

If it sounds like a low tone Model 7, it is an 8-port Screamer. This will give the same B-flat pitch like most Sentry sirens. Most Screamers that I've heard are the 9-port version, which has a higher pitch (C) and is basically an American E-57.

What confuses me is that the Edwards Model S and the Ericsson Double Disk (not to be confused with the Erick Fire Siren of the 1920's) are almost identical to the Screamer. Anyone know more about these two?

The Edwards Model S was in fact an ACA Screamer. Edwards at one point sold the ACA sirens under their name. I used to have an Edwards catalog around 1996 and it had a bunch of other ACA sirens in it including the Screamer, Banshee, Penetrators, and the Alertronics. The Screamers came in various models with dB ranges between 98db@100' to 110db@100'.
