From an old post long ago

Mon Jul 31, 2006 3:46 am

I remember the post that someone asked if T-bolts could run on batteries (and I know the answer is no) but someone came up with the idea of Generators, but then somebdy shot that idea down with the answer of "But think about having to go around starting those things up"

Well, isn't there small generators (not the big ones used on buldings that provide like 10 Kilowatts) but a small somewhat portable generator that starts itself in a matter of second after the power goes out? I think I saw one up at Lowes one day, it was a house generator but it wasn't something big or provided a whole butt load of power and started itself in about 3 seconds after the main power failed and it adjusted the engine speed to match the power demand. Wouldn't something like that work on a T-bolt? (assuming the T-bolt is single phase 240 volt)

I recall seing pictures a while back of a generator-powered Thunderbolt system made by Federal, though Google isn't turning up anything.

[edit] Here we go.
Google directed me to >this< thread, as I seem to remember hearing of these used in Kuwait. This setup is called "System 7000."

... Damn, Gil beat me while I was editing my post :D

SO I wasn't when I saw that T-bolt in Kuwait going off behind the reporters shoulder? (Before I got into sirens) Once I got into sirens I looked back and I thought "Nah, there's no way that's a Thunderbolt." But it is

Yep, there was a pic on the old board of a 7000 series hosting a 1003 head. And I've heard enough Tbolt recordings here to know they were dual tone Tbolts when I heard them on the news in 2003.

cool, my next question. Is it possible (possibly with significant modification) to convert a T-bolt to DC?

I mean the Blower motor isn't all that hard to replace, nor is the rotor box motor, but could you possibly, maybe thru using a different Armature assembly from a DC model 2 for the chopper motor?

Technically, you could do it, but is it really worth the time, money and maintenance of the blower? You could have a new system of 2001's for slightly more money, and way less time and maintenance.

I just wanted to know if it was THEORITICALLY possible to do such thing. I'd be surprised to see if some county actually did such thing
