Wisconson Sirens

Sat Aug 05, 2006 10:13 am

From what Ive seen, Wisconson has a lot of nice Federal # 5/7 type sirens, SD10's & STH10's ... That's a nice change up from most mid-west states that have changed over to a lot of that electronic junk. Are these mechanical sirens in Wisconson used for fire departments or weather?

Columbus Ohio use to have all T bolts and SD10's, a few 5T's up till 1990. Now they have only a few T bolts left and replaced all other sirens with those Whelen PA speaker units..yuck! they technically don't qualify as a siren. Even one of the OEM coordinators thinks they s*cK as they have to keep replacing speaker cells as they blow out after a while from when the units amp up.

We have two STH10's in Lancaster, and are both used for the Fire Departments and weather warnings. Our other sirens, Banshee, Screamer, and T-bolt, are also used for weather, etc.
