Hey Robert,

Years back, I had two of the flower light bulbs, one I remember one being a purple orchid, and I forget the other. I built a base with two sockets and a piece of wood, and gave it to a girlfriend.

I also had a Capacitor checker with the "Green Eye" tube in it. I think my mom threw it away, because it mysteriously disappeared.

Yes, for my girlfriend I installed one on a little three sided mirror, which hangs in a corner.
Then we broke up and I have never seen one since.

I don't remember them, as I was born in 1971 and all I remember was the annoying interruption of the song playing on the 8-track, phonographs, phones with bells, TVs with tubes, stores with tube testers, people smoking in the supermarket, teacher's aides yelling at us in Italian, Jimmy Carter (still an idiot), and my father's advice on how one should always remove the smog pump from their car and save it in case they have to sell it. And, of course, my town's air horns, which were shut off in 1992.

I wasnt sure how the "flower bulbs" worked, but I assumed there was some UV content that reacted with a coating that the leaves were doped with. They were quite colorful. Had no idea what gases were used. I bought mine at Spencer Gifts.

Excellent Elliot!

You are exactly right.
Invisible UV cleverly causes the coating on the stems and leaves to fluoresce while the bare metal petals glow from the discharge.

Few others have figured that out.

But I wonder if the gas contains some mercury vapor which produces the UV.
