Are there any recordings of Modulators out there? I have never really heard a full recording of one.

There was one on WisconsinSirens.com of a Modulator doing the Westminster tone.

I have a video saved up from a past siren contest of one doing a single toned wail. I'll see where it is and post it.

Sounds like crap.
Don't understand why anyone is interested in electronicounterfeit sirens.

The Modulator descending tone is certainly more noticeable than ascending sweep.
Is it louder due to someffect?

When an ambulance is at a distance where it'siren just becomes audible,
we can only hear the WAIL descent. As it get closer, we can then also hear the ascent.

Wonder if the same applies to REAL sirens?

the recording doesnt do justice...its pretty loud and sounds much "stronger" in person. Yes that was recorded a few months before it got hit by lightning and no i just uploaded a sound file not the video.

So, is this a problem witheselectronicounterfeits?

But I must admit, it can be very difficult to protecthem from direct lightning strikes.

An electro-mechanical siren would be far less prone to being taken out-of-service from a lightning strike.
