Boys Town Siren Test recording

Mon Sep 18, 2006 3:57 pm

I've been saving this one, but since there is no more Siren Contest, I'll share it with you. TURN UP YOUR VOLUME, as this recording is not as loud as I would like it. This is the monthly test of Omaha's siren system, recorded in Boys Town in March, 2005. Boys Town is a separate city with its own siren system consisting of three 3T22s, but it is surrounded by Omaha, which uses mostly T-128s. In the foreground are the 3T22s, all in hi-lo. About 300 feet from the siren on the Boys Town post office is a T-128 within the city limits of Omaha. Both are sounded simultaneously. You also hear several other T-128's, a 2001, and a distant 1003 on a very high speed. I was sitting in the bleachers of a baseball diamond and it was somewhat windy, so apologies for the wind noise. Also, my cheap little recorder ran out of tape during the wind-down, so apologies for that also. Enjoy.

There's a pretty good pic of the T-128 at the Boys Town post office on the new T-128 spec sheets.

I love the 3T22s in that recording. :D

You never really realize how much they add to the recording until you hear them in Hi-Low with other sirens doing a plain Alert tone.

Nice recording!

Very good recording, Daniel. Very nice harmonics of the 1003.

Wow. Sweet recording! Good thing they test them because from what I heard they had to blow them for real on Saturday night more than once. (I heard while at dinner 3 tornadoes were spotted near Omaha. I missed the news so I don't know if it was true or not.)

I live literally 1 block away from a T-128 and I was outside looking at the storm when it went off.
Goodbye everybody I will miss this board.
