Can you explain what you don't like to an old fart like me? I am assuming that the sirens being heard in the clips are electronic and not mechanical. I must have been away from all this fun and excitement for too long. :)

Man, that sounds *very* low. Another run.

I think the last one has an eQ2B since it has a higher pitch.

Thanks for posting those clips. I've always wanted to hear the Executer and the EQ2B in a "real" setting, not just the manufacturer's sound clips that have circulated around for a while.

I believe that the last truck out in the last video clip has the EQ2B-- you're right, it is a lot higher. If you listen carefully you can hear the "electronic" pop as the siren is first activated. This seems to be common on all of the electronic imitators, both Federal and Whelen.

Actually, while neither the EQ or the Executer are not the exact sound we're used to, neither one sounds all that bad, just different. What is kind of neat is that as the trucks go down the street, the "echoes" of the siren off of the buildings sound darn close to a real Q2B. They did a good job of capturing the harmonics of a mechanical siren as well as the fundamental sound in their reproduction.

Don't get me wrong-- If a vehicle can support a mechanical siren it should have one (the B&M Super Chief!!! :-) ) But the electronics are a good alternative when a vehicle's electric system won't support the draw of a mechanical siren.

I'm sure we're going to start hearing a lot more of these in the future.

John

An eQ with a brake? How ridiculous.

Asoon as possible, I switch off the siren.
The blessed silence allows you to hear the siren echo from homes and businesses needlessly annoyed.

Pedestrians with babies arespecially appreciative when I press the microphone switch to instantly silence siren before the speakers are aimed athem just beforentering or turning in an intersection.

Plus, instantaneous pauses allow hearing otheresponding EVs.
Can't do that with mechanical sirens.

Are some electronic sirens still 58 watts or something?

I recall sirens in Phoenix were the lower power to diminish disturbing the peace.

If you keep a siren peaked, it no longer sounds like a siren.
Bad move. If someone has an accident, they may blame the improperly peaked siren as unrecognizeable.
