Thunderbolt problem

Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:23 pm

Ok, there is a school right by my house. At the school there is a Thunderbolt 1000 behind it. When it was test day the thunderbolt sounded fine, it's regular ROAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!. But a couple of days later, I was at the school and I saw this white truck going back to it. The truck had Outdoor warning systems entitled on it. So I left came back the next day and saw that a new antennae and gray box had been placed on the siren pole. So a couple of days later they tested it, it sounded weak and cut off quickly at the end of its cycle. Could any one please tell me what they think the problem is? :?: I would greatly appreciate it.

Could the new control box limit power to the blower
or close a valve on the blower pipe to limit flow 90%
to lessen sound output for tests?

it would be a completely new and custom addition that no one, as far as I know, has done before.

Any theories to explain the symptoms?

I wonder if it were purposeful?

Maybe they cleaned bearings and they were tightened too much.

Would be nice to contact Outdoor Warning maintenence and ASK.

Not sure why it sounded weak, unless there is an air leak or something. Was the pitch different or did it just sound weaker? As for cutting out quickly, that could be far more simple. You said they put a new control box on the pole, right? The way most tbolts are set up, is so when the siren stops, the blower runs for a few seconds, then cuts out. The new controls probably have the siren motor and blower motor cut out simultaneously, which would cause the sound to drop out much quicker.

What is your definition of "weak."
Half as loud, 3/4 as loud, 1/4 as loud?????
Dad, what does that CD mean on that big yellow horn? Well son, I believe it stands for Cyclone Device......

Welcome, Freak.

Yes, if power is cut to the chopper and simultaneously to the blower, the sound drops immensely but you can still detect the chopper spinning down to inaudibility.

Can you call Outdoor Warning Systems and ask why the Thunderbolt sounds different and what they did?

Could this be a new test mode to check systems without the siren sounding at full output?

Thanks.

Was it this one??? I took a pick of it when I was in the Falls. Do they happen to test the 1003 at the police dpt.?? When do they test? Ive wanted to hear a single tone TB for years now in person, reminds me of the one in Fondy I listened too.
