Any Sentry 40V2T recordings out there?

Sat Nov 04, 2006 10:11 pm

I've heard the recordings of this siren from Sentry, including the test video, but I have never heard a recording of the 40V2T in use as a fire or tornado siren. Did Sterling ever make a dual tone siren that was a 10/15, or anything other than an 8/16? Does anyone have a recording of the 40V2T "in the wild?"

I do know that Chris Yarberry at Sentry replied to an email by me, & said it's very expensive to change port ratios.

Because the production of rotors relies mostly on casting, I would think so. Who is Chris Yarberry, by the way?

My bad, it's Scott Yarberry, National Sales Manager of Sentry. He responded to some questions I asked a few years ago:

Q: Do you have any Sentry sirens in California? I'm in San Jose, & I've not seen any.

A: Not too many in California, here are a couple we've done these in the last few months.

Naval Air Warfare Center
China Lake, CA
(3) Model 3V8-3

Spring Valley Lake Assn.
Victorville, CA
(1) Model SS3-AC NR

Electrical Distributors
(1) Model 3V8-3

Q: Also, can someone special order one of your sirens with a 2 tone perfect 4th interval?

A: Nope, sorry, the output frequency is fixed at one of four: 460, 600, 850, or 920 Hz. The cost of custom producing a stator and rotor is immense. Not to mention, the enthusiasts are the only ones who care about sounding pretty. Our customers are only concerned with volume and cost, unfortunate, but true.

Too bad they couldn't produce a siren with 460 and 600 Hz. (8/10). It would be a maj. 3rd and more recognizable than other intervals that have strong overtones.

A bolt with a 4/5 chopper will sound like a 8/10 when going because the chopper will spin a 8000rpms

I meant that it is too bad Sentry couldn't produce one. Just take the low tone head from a 40V2T and combine it with the low tone head on a 20V2T. I don't know about the size difference, but the sound would be like a Hurricane only slower and omnidirectional.
