[Poll] Most Unusual Siren Sound

Sat May 20, 2006 11:58 pm

What is the most unusual siren sound you have ever heard?

Links to the siren's actual sound or pics are highly recommended.

Mine is the ACA Hurricane 130, the wind-up takes about half of a second. The Hurricane is quite a commanding siren, because it's harmony is very unusual. And the element of surprise is also a factor. Here is a recording: http://home.comcast.net/~cosmicool/soun ... ricane.mp3
*EDIT: The wind-down is also unusual. Is the sound muffled at the end from the siren itself?

But I also want to add this sound I found. It is not neccessarily a weird siren sound, but it is a very cool stereo recording in which the telephone signals are on the left, and the siren sound is on the right. Sometimes people who owned hand-powered sirens would have recievers for these so that they could operate them: http://home.comcast.net/~cosmicool/sounds/wb600.mp3

The Hurricane. Its accents make it sound like a trumpet.
I originally voted for the T-135, but that is only because Eric's recording had the wind-ups distorted by buildings, I think.

Yes, the Hurricane MkII. We have yet to hear a MkI around here. Even though it has the same interval as a 2T22, the horn & blower make it sound way different.

That minor 3rd interval Allertor in that one video also sounded strange.

I haven't yet heard a Thunderbolt growl (I think it would just sound regular...?)

But that Elektror doesn't look too big... is it? And it is the worst sounding siren I have ever heard, it sounds like a flippin' powersaw.

And the growl in the beginning makes it sound even worse!

*runs out of room screaming with blood seeping from ears*

EDIT: Now that I think of it, the Hurricane would make a perfect siren for ZE END OF ZE VORLD!!!!!! or some sort of movie with total chaos and destruction.

The Thunderbolt does growl, because the blower amplifies the lower and more choppy frequencies of the rotor at its slower speeds.

Yes, the Elector S3B isn't big. But, who could argue with one-hundred-fifty Hertz of sound frequency? :P
I changed my mind now.
It is, in my opinion, a good-sounding siren.
