Most unusual sounding siren

Mon Dec 04, 2006 8:19 pm

I'd have to say the Federal Signal 2001 series, those things are insanely high pitched.
I can't hear you! *air raid siren sounding* Ok I can hear you now.

It's not really "ominous," but the quick windup and sudden decrease in speed of the Screamer is a little disconcerting.

The Whelens sounds pretty "cool" as they just blast out instead of starting off soft and getting like most sirens. Thats kind of scary especially at close range they just blast out, I also like the windown which is unusually short.

My vote goes to the HOR super sirex w/ 7/10 port ratio.

I always thought that the STL-10 has the creepiest sound. Also, the Thunderbolt 1003 with the minor third interval.

Most Unusual in a creepy sense? I second ronatello's choice of the HOR dualtone.

Most Unusual in a pleasantly intruguing sense? Any dualtone siren that sounds on a Major Fifth (Cyclone/T-135, SirenMasters(???), most dualtone Decots).

EDIT: There was an entry in a *very* old Siren Contest that featured a Pennsylvania-based T-Bolt 1000T running on what was **IIRC** essentially a 2 HP motor used for the name-sake Federal single-tone siren. Needless to say the pitch was quite up there, yet the set-up was apparently sufficient to make the 'Bolt sound as it should decibel-wise.
So I would add this to my "pleasantly unusual" category.

Holy crap, I made this topic a long time ago (with a different account, of course).

I once saw this vid of a Decot and a Tbolt sitting right next to each other. Wish I could find it again. The Decot was an extremely musical sound... it was more uplifting than commanding!
