LaVale 3T22 needs help!

Wed Nov 22, 2006 12:43 am

I just walked out to take the garbage out and before I walked out, I heard this low growl. When I walked out, I Immediatly noticed the Sterling M-5 down the valley. But Then I started listening for the 3T22 and to my amazement it was VERY LOW!! Sounds like it's not getting enough power.

Suggestions are greatly apperciated, and I will relay them to LVFD. when I go to E-mail them. I will also try to get a recording of it.

Is it a three phase unit?? If so, one of the legs could be dead which would cause the motor to single phase and run slower. If this is the case it needs to be repaired ASAP as this can burn up the motor. I have seen quite a few three phase motors burn up from this. The first was a 30HP on a boiler, it lost a leg while it was running and kept on going. It slowed a little bit but not enough for the boiler to lock out. It ran for about 15 mins then overheated and the fuses blew. Cost us 900 bucks to have it rewound. But usually a motor cannot start without all three phases. Other than that Im not sure, maybe something is stuck in it and causing it to rub.

I would agree with Brandon, KnightFox.

You need to have them either take it off of the pole and send it in or get a tech to look at it in the air.

Well, I guess the LVFD did something with the 3T22. For awhile there, all you heard was the Sterling down in the valley and no 3T22. I guess they took it out of service for awhile to have someone repair it, because it's back and running at full power now!

I haven't been that way in some time but I'm guessing they haven't started using Hi-Lo again, have they?

It's actually supposed to be using the Hi-Lo but the solinoids are shot.

Hey, Fox, did you learn what was wrong with their 2t22?
Single phase needing new brushes?
Thank you,
