Re: Question about the bee-striped Thunderbolts

Nice pictures! I don't think I've seen any pics of a Thunderbolt in its shipping crate.

Re: What siren motor do I use for a 3d printed siren?

Heh, I 3D printed a replica of my Model 5 years ago and just used a little motor from the hardware department in Lowe's :D The thing was still LOUD and annoyed my wife to no end! Now I have a much better understanding of tolerances in 3D printing and will try making another one again sometime. This'...

Re: Uniquely Mounted Sirens Thread

Logistically, this Thunderbolt isn't odd, but its mount is rather unique. I do actually appreciate the way how it was made with maintenance access in mind. They can't be using the ladder that much. The paint condition speaks to that  I always thought siren mounts with a maintenance platform we...

Re: Chino 2T22

Thanks for the picture! That siren looks sharp! Maybe it does actually work? There's a beefy plug wired to it after all! They probably have 3-phase power on site to fire it up.

Re: Chino 2T22

Is the siren actually in the museum as an exhibit, or is it mounted outside somewhere? There's a historic WW2 museum hangar that has a working coded Fedelcode Model 5 that's mounted atop a building and controlled by the museum. Wendover Army Airfield is the place.

Re: Is it possible?

In theory, it could be possible to mount a simple siren upside down. You would need very strong bolts, and depending on the size of the siren you might need even longer bolts or extra reinforcement. Gravity would be pulling the siren down just the same as if it were mounted right side up, to it cou...

Re: Schaumburg ACA P-50 Came Down Today…

You'd need a genset the size of a car to run one of these. They pull 900 amps at startup on 208 volt 3 phase. On 240 3 phase, it's around 500 amps on startup. On 480 3 phase, it's much less at 200 amps to start the siren. That 50 hp motor is a pig and requires so much energy to start. Good to know!...

Re: Tagless Model 5 (How to find info?)

This looks to be a very early Federal Enterprises era Model 5 (single phase as well), especially as it does not have any holes cut in the stator top to attach coding gear. When you look on the shroud for a motor tag, also look for another large badge that says “Fedelcode” or “Federal”, as if it has...
